empirio.ai MCP server: create surveys with AI agents

What is the empirio.ai MCP server and how do you connect AI agents like ChatGPT or Claude to your surveys? We explain simply what's possible and how to get started.

Imagine simply telling your AI assistant "Build me a short customer satisfaction survey and give me the participation link" - and a few seconds later the finished questionnaire is ready. That is exactly what the empirio.ai MCP server makes possible. It connects AI agents like ChatGPT or Claude directly to your survey account, so the AI can create, edit, publish and even analyse surveys for you. You don't have to be a developer for that. Here we will show you, in plain language, what MCP actually is, what the empirio.ai MCP server can do and how to turn your AI chat into a real survey tool. You can always find all the technical details on the individual commands afterwards in our developer documentation.

📌 The key points at a glance:

  • The MCP server (Model Context Protocol) is an open interface that lets AI agents like ChatGPT and Claude work directly with your empirio.ai surveys - create, edit, publish and analyse surveys, all via chat.
  • Setting it up works without programming knowledge: you enter the server address once in your AI client, log in securely - done.
  • The connection is 100% free. Once you have created an empirio.ai account, you can get started right away.

What is the empirio.ai MCP server?

MCP stands for "Model Context Protocol". That sounds technical, but at its core it is simple: MCP is a shared language that lets AI tools talk to other programs. You can think of it like a universal plug. Without a plug like that, ChatGPT knows nothing about your surveys. With the MCP plug, the AI suddenly gets access to your empirio.ai account and can carry out real actions there.

The empirio.ai MCP server is exactly that plug for online surveys. Once you have connected it to your AI agent, the AI understands instructions like "Show me the responses to my last survey" or "Publish the draft" - and carries them out directly in your account. You no longer switch back and forth between the chat and the survey tool. You talk to the AI, and the AI works in empirio.ai.

Why this is more than a normal AI chat

An AI model on its own is a language genius, but a loner: it can write texts and deliver ideas, but it cannot put a real survey online, generate a participation link or store responses. The MCP server closes exactly that gap. It gives the AI "hands" with which it can really get something done in your survey account.

A small comparison makes it clear:

  • AI without MCP: "Here is a suggestion for your 8 questions, you can now enter them somewhere yourself."
  • AI with empirio.ai MCP: "I have set up the survey in your account and published it. Here is your participation link."

An open standard - not just for one tool

MCP is an open standard, not an empirio.ai home-grown product. That has a practical advantage for you: the empirio.ai MCP server works not just with a single provider, but with any AI client that supports MCP. ChatGPT and Claude are the best known, but other MCP-capable tools can be connected too. So you are not tied to one vendor and can use the agent you most like working with anyway.

What can the MCP server actually do? Create and analyse surveys with AI

Once the connection is in place, your AI agent can take over the entire life cycle of a survey. You describe your goal in plain language, and the AI translates it into the right actions at empirio.ai. Broadly, the capabilities fall into two areas: everything around the survey itself and everything around the responses.

Create, change and publish surveys

This is where the biggest time saving lies. On your command the AI can set up a completely new survey - in AI mode, where you only describe your goal in one sentence and empirio.ai generates the whole questionnaire in the background. Typical instructions the MCP server carries out:

  • Create new: "Build me a 5-question survey on the Net Promoter Score for our new product and publish it."
  • Edit: "Swap question 3 for an open question and make the survey anonymous."
  • Publish or withdraw: "Put the survey live" or "Take it offline again and back into draft."
  • Duplicate: "Clone last quarter's survey as a new draft."
  • List and view: "Show me all my surveys" or "What does the structure of survey X look like?"

If you are just starting out and don't want to begin from scratch, you can also have the AI build on existing survey templates and adapt them to your target group in just a few words.

Retrieve, analyse and export responses

The second big block is the analysis. Instead of clicking through charts yourself, you simply ask the AI what you want to know. The MCP server fetches the relevant figures straight from your account:

  • Retrieve statistics: "How many participants started and how many completed the survey?"
  • Summarise results: "Summarise the responses per question and tell me what stands out."
  • Build cross-tabulations: "Compare 'How satisfied are you?' with 'Would you recommend us?'."
  • Export: "Export the responses as an Excel file" or "Turn the charts into an editable PowerPoint for me."

The AI can export responses as CSV, Excel, JSON or SPSS and output charts as PowerPoint, PDF or Word. Especially for reports, that saves a lot of manual work.

Important: here you have to decide whether the AI agent is allowed to see your survey results or not. Survey data is generally stored in the EU at empirio.ai and is therefore ideally protected, especially for sensitive content. As soon as you share the results with the AI agents, what may happen to the data depends on your personal settings with ChatGPT, Claude and the like (for example use as training data). So think carefully about what you authorise the AI agents for and what you don't. In our documentation you will find the individual permissions you can grant the AI agents.

An example

Let's say you lead a small team and you use Claude for various automated workflows, and you want to know how the last product release went down internally. The process could look like this: you write "Build me a short, anonymous survey with 6 questions about the last release (the one we planned with you), scale 1 to 5 plus one open question, and publish it." The AI sets it up via the MCP server and gives you the link back. You share it with the team. A few days later you ask in the same chat "Show me the results - where were the lowest scores?". What used to be a switch between several tools now happens in a single conversation, and you could give the AI agent further follow-up tasks based on the survey results.

💡 Practical tip:

Start small. The first time, let your AI agent set up a simple test survey in your account and see how it looks in the empirio.ai dashboard. That way you get a feel in one go for how your instruction and the real tool work together - and you quickly notice where you can still sharpen your prompts.

How to connect your AI agent and empirio.ai via MCP

The good news first: you don't need any programming knowledge. The empirio.ai MCP server is a hosted service - so you don't install anything on your computer, you just enter an address in your AI agent and log in. The connection runs over a secure login standard, where you don't have to copy any keys by hand.

The connection in a few steps

  1. Create an account: sign up for free at empirio.ai.
  2. Enter the server address: in your AI agent you add empirio.ai as an external MCP server / connector. The address is https://platform.empirio.ai/mcp.
  3. Log in and grant permissions: the first time you connect, you log in once securely and allow the agent access to surveys and responses (individual permissions can be enabled and disabled). After that everything runs automatically.

With ChatGPT and Claude

In Claude you add the server under "Settings → Connectors (now "Customise")" as a "Custom connector". In ChatGPT the connection works via the tool function with the same server address. Both routes only need the URL - the login takes care of itself afterwards. We deliberately keep the exact procedure and configuration examples up to date in the docs, because the AI providers' interfaces change every now and then.

You stay in control of your data at all times: access only runs through your own login, is limited to the permissions you grant, and can be cut off again at any time.

Prefer it more technical? CLI and REST API

If you don't want to work through a chat, empirio.ai offers two more routes that are part of the Pro plan. With the CLI (a command-line tool) you control surveys by command in the terminal - handy for automating workflows. The REST API covers everything the platform can do and can be embedded into your own tools, CRMs or dashboards. So the AI connection via MCP is just one of three doors - the easiest, because it works entirely without code. You can also read how to build surveys purely through the chat in our articles on surveys with ChatGPT and surveys with Claude.

Data protection, limits and who the MCP server is worth it for

As practical as the AI connection is, there are a few things you should know before you get started. Especially when it comes to data, it is worth taking a clear look.

Where your data is stored

All survey data is stored 100% on servers in the EU at empirio.ai and is subject to the GDPR (and, for participants in the UK, the UK GDPR). That is a real plus, especially for employee or customer surveys. An important addition: whatever you type into the AI chat is processed by the respective AI provider according to its own rules. Sensitive raw data therefore belongs in your empirio.ai account - not in open chat histories. Our article on the anonymous survey shows how to set up surveys that are fully anonymous; the legal framework is explained in the guide to data protection in surveys.

Where the limits are

The MCP server is not a magic wand. There are three points you should keep in mind:

  • Dependent on the AI agent: you hand the planning and execution over to an AI model that often has very general knowledge - but is not specialised in surveys. That can sometimes cause problems - in which case you might be better off working directly with the empirio.ai AI editor. It is a genuine survey pro.
  • Fair usage limits: so that nobody overloads the system, there are limits on how many actions can run per minute or per day. In normal everyday use you won't notice them.
  • AI stays AI: for very complex, scientific studies in which every scale has to be checked precisely, you are often more accurate in the empirio.ai editor. So always read through the questionnaires it generates once.

Who it's especially worth it for

Quite simply: if you already automate many of your processes with AI agents and a large part of your working time happens there, then the connection via the MCP server is ideal for you. empirio.ai works for you - together with other tools - in the place where you like to spend your time. The AI connection shows its strengths wherever you often need surveys or have little appetite for clicking around. It is especially useful if you frequently set up small surveys for your team, an event or customers, want analyses explained quickly in plain text, or want to automate workflows without having to ask a developer for every little thing. For freelancers, small teams and students, the empirio.ai MCP server is therefore a big time saver.

If you simply want to create, edit or analyse a survey with an AI tool, you can also do all of that directly at empirio.ai. Here you will find all the AI helpers you need for online surveys.

If you want to get started: create an empirio.ai account and set up the MCP server in your AI client following the docs - and then simply write "Build me a survey about ...". The AI takes care of the rest.
