Create & analyze surveys with Claude: here's how

You tell Claude what you want to find out, and a questionnaire comes back within seconds. Nobody can answer it, though: a language model hands out no link, takes in no responses and keeps nothing.

You create a survey with Claude by adding the empirio.ai connector under Connectors in your settings, signing in once, and then describing in the chat what you want to know. Claude builds the questionnaire in your empirio.ai account and returns the participation link. Every survey made this way also sits in your empirio.ai dashboard, so you can move between chat and tool whenever you like.

What Claude can and cannot do with surveys

Claude is a language model, not a survey tool. Everything ahead of fielding it does well: drafting questions, choosing a scale, tightening the audience, writing the intro and the thank-you screen. It will also read existing responses if you paste them in as text or CSV.

The wall comes at the point where a draft turns into real fieldwork. With no survey tool attached, Claude cannot publish a questionnaire and cannot take in a response.

What works in the chat with no connection at all

• Drafting questions, rewording them and catching leading phrasing.
• Proposing answer scales and labeling the points clearly.
• Writing the intro, the privacy notice and the thank-you screen.
• Summarizing and clustering responses you have pasted in.

What needs a connection

• Publishing a live survey with its own link.
• Collecting and storing responses from real participants.
• Showing analyses with filters and cross-tabulations.
• Keeping the data on servers inside the EU.

Put another way: for the questionnaire Claude is a solid co-author. Fielding and analyzing happen somewhere else, and the connector is what bridges that.

Connecting empirio.ai to Claude: step by step

The fastest route is the directory in Claude, which gathers skills, connectors and plugins in one place. You search there for empirio.ai and add the entry. There is no server address to type in anymore.

Setup runs a minute or two and calls for no technical background. All it takes is a free empirio.ai account.

1. Create an account. Sign up for free at empirio.ai.
2. Open your connectors. In Claude, go to Customize and from there to your connectors.
3. Search for empirio.ai. Type „empirio.ai" into the search box and pick the entry.
4. Connect. Claude sends you to the empirio.ai sign-in once.
5. Confirm. Allow Claude to access empirio.ai and confirm the connection. Done.

The manual route through the MCP server still works

If you set empirio.ai up as a custom connector with the address https://platform.empirio.ai/mcp before the listing existed, nothing needs changing. That connection keeps working, and for other AI clients the manual route is still the normal one. For Claude, connecting through your connectors is simply the easier path. Begin with a test survey you leave unpublished. Your dashboard then shows how Claude turned your instruction into a questionnaire, and you will see fast where the prompt has to get sharper.

Creating a survey: from prompt to participation link

Once the connection stands, you describe the plan in the chat. The more specific the prompt, the less there is to repair later. Name the goal, the audience, the length and the language.

A workable opening reads roughly like this: „Create an anonymous employee survey with eight questions about collaboration on the team, on a 1 to 5 scale, plus one open closing question. It should take under three minutes."

Claude drafts the questionnaire, creates it in your empirio.ai account and reports back on the result. As a rule the survey lands as an unpublished draft first, so you can review it before it goes out.

At the end you get two addresses: a preview link that works right away, and the participation link, which goes live only after you publish. Send it too early and you are handing out an address that leads nowhere.

To publish, a sentence like „Publish the survey" is enough. Only then is the participation link valid, and you can share it by email, messenger or QR code. To reuse an existing survey as a starting point, say „Duplicate survey X and change the title"; ready-made survey templates are also available at empirio.ai directly.

Editing and improving a survey

Edits run the same way as creation: you describe them, Claude executes them in the real tool. With no connection you would carry every correction over by hand afterward.

Improving is where a language model pays off. Claude reads the questionnaire out of your account, spots ambiguous wording, leading questions and unlabeled scales, and proposes alternatives. Which of them you keep is your decision.

Three phrasings cover most cases, and you can use them word for word.

• Swap a question: „Replace question 3 with an NPS question and make the survey anonymous."
• Ask for a review: „Check the questionnaire for leading questions and overlong scales, and give me concrete alternatives."
• Undo: „Discard my changes and restore the last published version."

Being able to undo changes is the brake this way of working would otherwise lack. While a survey is live, you work on a draft you can throw away without touching the fielding. To close a survey for a while, „Take the survey offline" does it.

When it pays to switch to the tool

The chat is strong at wording, the editor is strong at visualizing. You drag questions into order in empirio.ai, and the preview shows you at once how the survey looks to your participants.

The gap is widest on design. Logo, colors and images can be set from the chat as well, but whether the combination actually looks good is a call for the eye, not the prompt. Every survey Claude creates sits in your empirio.ai dashboard anyway. So you jump over, move two questions, check the design and go back to the chat. That back and forth is the whole point of the connection.

⚠️ Careful

Claude carries very broad general knowledge but is not a specialist tool for questionnaire design. Read every generated questionnaire through yourself before publishing. Which question types fit which purpose is covered in our guide to creating a questionnaire.

Analyzing results with Claude

For analysis, Claude pulls the data straight out of your empirio.ai account instead of you exporting a table and pasting it in. That cuts the handling and keeps raw data out of the chat history.

The opening move is usually a status question, then it gets specific: how many answered, where the outliers are, what the open responses say.

All told the connector brings 16 tools: 9 for the survey itself and 7 for the responses. Which of them your account can use still depends on your plan. The connector unlocks nothing your plan does not include.

Permissions and privacy: what Claude is allowed to see

When you connect, you grant two separate permissions, and the split matters more than it first looks. One covers the questionnaire, the other your participants' responses.

The empirio.ai developer documentation describes both in detail. In practice they mean:

• The questionnaire permission allows creating, reading, editing, publishing, unpublishing, duplicating and deleting.
• The response permission allows listing, summarizing, cross-tabulating, exporting and deleting.

You can grant the first and hold back the second. Claude then builds surveys for you without seeing a single response. Both permissions can be granted or revoked individually at any time. If one is missing, the connector stops cleanly and names the permission to add.

What applies in the United States

The United States has no single federal privacy law covering surveys, so the rules depend on where your participants live. California is the reference point through the California Consumer Privacy Act, expanded by the California Privacy Rights Act; the state Attorney General's CCPA overview lays out the resulting consumer rights.

Worth knowing for AI in particular: the California Privacy Protection Agency adopted rules on automated decisionmaking technology, risk assessments and cybersecurity audits that took effect on January 1, 2026. If a survey feeds a decision about people, those rules are the ones to read.

One difference from Europe is easy to miss. US law attaches no legal significance to where the data sits, so EU hosting is not a compliance argument here, it is a security and trust argument. What does carry weight is your AI provider's terms: their rules on training data and data retention, and whether you can put a data processing agreement in place. Sensitive raw data therefore belongs in your account, not in an open chat history. Common mistakes and where the limits are

Most trouble comes not from the technology but from the prompt and from expectations pitched too high. Four cases show up especially often.

All four take seconds to fix once you know them.

The participation link goes out before publishing

Claude often hands you both links in the same paragraph. The participation link works only after the survey is published. Open the address yourself before it reaches a mailing list.

The prompt names no goal

„Make me a customer satisfaction survey" yields an arbitrary questionnaire. Name the decision you are trying to make instead. „I want to know whether we should change our hours" yields far sharper questions.

Too many questions at once

Claude grants any request, including one for thirty questions. Long questionnaires drive completion rates down noticeably. Ask for cuts outright and have Claude justify which question can go.

The connector is not active in the conversation

Claude then answers with a questionnaire in the chat window instead of a link, as if the connection had failed. Usually the connector is just switched off for that one conversation. Turn it back on and send the prompt again.

Conclusion

With the connector, Claude turns into a survey tool that carries the route from prompt to analysis. The effort has shrunk to two clicks. The biggest gain goes to people already working in Claude who want to skip the tool switch.

The chat does not replace thinking about the questionnaire. It replaces the copying between two tools.
